DESCRIPTION OF THE SPECIAL YEAR
In recent years, the arithmetic
properties of Shimura varieties have been at the center of a great
amount of very
successful research. It is foreseeable that Shimura varieties will
continue to
play an important role in Arithmetic Geometry in the
future. More recently, the Arakelov geometry of Shimura varieties has
received a considerable impulse. The aim of the Special Year on
Arakelov geometry and Shimura varieties is to
bring together mathematicians working in the two fields,
in order to accelerate further this recent development.
The Special Year is directed to researchers as well as young doctors and
advanced PhD students.
The present programme includes the means to finance 24 months of
visiting researchers
for periods of one to three months.
From February 20 to 25, 2006, we organize an
advanced course around the themes of integral models
of Shimura varieties, variants of the Gross-Zagier formula and
related conjectures.
Furthermore, from July 10 to 15, 2006, there will be a
conference
concluding the program. Besides the advanced course and the
conference,
there will be many more activities on a smaller scale.
Here
is more information, regularly updated, on these activities.
The
European Network Arithmetic Algebraic Geometry can provide
the means for PhD students to assist in the activities of the program.
